Big changes

Hi, so I haven’t posted for a while as my room has gone through quite a few transitions due to poor breeding results and a change of heart of what I want to keep. I have decided to sell the Yorkshire canaries and the Mosaics and keep Fife canaries again solely which is in some… Continue reading Big changes

Illness and death

Chicks dying

Good afternoon, sadly the two Mosaic red browns died at two weeks through lack of feeding although the parents were trying. The chicks would call for food but not open their mouths. For me this is down to leaving the nest too early and I will not put the nest down to cage floor anymore… Continue reading Chicks dying

I was going away and my bird room was being sorted so I could not let her breed. Anyway I threw away the eggs. Now… Continue reading Confusing times!!

Canary nest pans sorted!

So I am trying the carbolic soap method to stick the nest pan liners in to the nest pans as it is apparently very offensive to red mite. It is definitely smelly so fingers crossed it will help!

Weekly update 14/2/17

This week it is just a case of continuing the egg food twice a week whilst waiting for the bird room to be completed so that I can move them in. The hens are very much ready to breed now and it is hard to hold them back. I should not have got the lighting… Continue reading Weekly update 14/2/17

MITE – The “M” Word

There are many different ways to prevent mite from what I have read but many of these old remedies may not work. From what I gather, red mite hate strong smells. For this reason, a lot of bird breeders will add garlic to the water in the form of granules or soak a couple of… Continue reading MITE – The “M” Word
